CHINA-LEADERSHIP: LATE CCP CC GENERAL SECRETARY ZHAO ZIYANG'S ASHES LAID TO REST

The ashes of late CCP CC General Secretary Zhao Ziyang and his wife were buried in a cemetery north of Beijing on October 18 and not in the Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery where senior Party leaders' ashes are normally buried. The ashes of Zhao Ziyang and his wife, Liang Boqi, were both buried on October 18 -- the 100th birth anniversary of Zhao Ziyang. Permission for burial at a location other than the Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery or one selected by the Party was finally given after 14 years!

(Comment: Zhao Ziyang had specifically asked that his ashes not be buried in the Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery. In fact, he had twice requested permission to quit the CCP. Zhao Ziyang was CCP CC General Secretary during the Tiananmen "counter-revolutionary rebellion" for which he was held responsible and rremoved.)
