PLA Navy Chief, Admiral Wu Shengli last week requested the visiting US Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Jonathan W Greenert, to bring the US aircraft carrier USS George Washington, which is based in Japan, to a port in China and allow the crew of the Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning to take a tour. China's defense ministry didn't respond to a request for comment. US officials commented that if Admiral Greenert took up the suggestion and it was approved, the USS George Washington could visit Shanghai as early as September this year.
