The official Xinhua news agency reported that a court in the Wuhua district of Kunming, capital of Yunnan province on July 23, had sentenced Dong Rubin, a businessman and blogger with 50,000 followers online who wrote under the online name 'Bianmin', to six and a half years in prison and fine of RMB 350,000. He was convicted of “fabricating and spreading online rumors for economic gain” and of conducting “illegal business operations”.
