CHINA-MACAU: AMCHAM CHAIRMAN AND PRESIDENT DENIED ENTRY TO MACAU

The American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (AmCham) said that the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Robert Grieves, and the President, Tara Joseph, were denied entry to Macau. The Chamber of Commerce stated that the two had not been informed of the reasons for the refusal of entry. After waiting for several hours, they had to sign a statement stating that they "voluntarily refused" to enter Macau, and then returned to Hong Kong smoothly. The Chamber of Commerce refers to being "confused" about the event and hoping to just "overreact" to recent events.

(Comment: Macau is at heightened vigilance because of Chinese President Xi Jinping's scheduled visit in the latter half of December.)
