CHINA-HEALTH CRISIS: CORONAVIRUS EMERGENCY

By midnight of January 25, Hubei Province had reported nearly 700 cases of pneumonia caused by the new coronavirus infection; 31 patients have been discharged from the hospital; and 24 have died. At present, 494 patients are still being treated in the hospital. 450 PLA medical  personnel have been deployed to Wuhan hospitals to help and 6000 rental cars have been stationed around Wuhan to help people with free transport. Cars have been assigned to various communities in Wuhan. The Wuhan Health Commission has planned to transform 24 general hospitals for temporary use to cope with the increasing number of patients with fever.

Following the spread of the Coronavirus with 1300 people affected by 25th January across China, major events and programmes in Beijing, Shanghai and other cities have been cancelled or postponed. All 70,000 cinema halls in China have been closed till further notice.

Meanwhile, on January 23, journalist Zhang Ouya of the provincial communist party committee paper Hubei Daily got into trouble for calling for the replacement of the Party Secretary of Wuhan City. Separately, there was a rumour -- later proved wrong -- on social media that Wuhan City Mayor Zhou Xianwang had been removed from his post.
