CHINA-LEADERSHIP: POLITICAL FALL-OUT ON CHINESE PRESIDENT XI JINPING

Xi Jinping has not figured on the front pages of the People's Daily since the 29th January and neither has he been seen on the state-owned CCTV telecasts.
More significantly, Chinese social media carries a number of messages critical of the Chinese central and provincial government's handling of the crisis and a few have been critical of Xi Jinping. At least two reputed academics have clearly suggested that the poor handling of the crisis will impact on Xi Jinping's position.
