CHINA-LEADERSHIP: REMARKS ON CORONAVIRUS

The Party's official mouthpiece People's Daily between February 8 and 14 each day published a commentary on the coronavirus drawing mainly on Chinese President Xi Jinping's remarks made on February 3 and 10. It variously called for the the use of science and technology for “scientifically demonstrating the source of the virus"; on social and economic stability and need to guarantee supplies of foodstuffs and basic necessities and a steady power supply; the psychological impact of the coronavirus epidemic; summarized the public remarks of Xi Jinping in Beijing and to 'front-line' workers in Wuhan; called for a “double victory” over both the coronavirus epidemic and targets for social and economic development; and
told readers “do not relax,” and that the most strenuous stage in epidemic control and prevention had been reached.
