Caixin reported (March 6) that according to the count of Johns Hopkins University in the US, there are now 101,598 confirmed cases of Coronavirus and 3,460 deaths around the world as of March 6 morning. The Chinese magazine Caixin separately reported that the number of confirmed cases in China climbed to 80,716 by March 6 evening, and the death toll reached 3,045. It revealed that more than 3,000 medical professionals were infected in Hubei province, 40% contracted the virus in a hospital setting, while the rest were infected via community transmission, and most were not infectious disease specialists. It said China honoured 34 doctors who died in the fight against the Covid-19 epidemic, including whistle-blowing doctor Li Wenliang.
