CHINA-US: US PROFESSOR ARRESTED FOR WORKING IN CHINA'S 'THOUSAND TALENTS' PROGRAMME

James Patrick Lewis, a former Physics Professor at West Virginia University was reported on March 11 to have pleaded guilty to fraud charges based on his work for a Chinese global talent program. He was accused of hiding his work with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, taking leave from his job to work in China and hiding it from the university. Lewis, who resigned from West Virginia in August 2019, agreed to pay the university $20,189. He also faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
