CHINA-TAIWAN: TAIWAN DONATES 5.6 MILLION MASKS TO EU; MORE TO FOLOW TO OTHERS

i) EU President Ursula von der Leyen Tweeted on April 2,  thanking Taiwan on behalf of the European Union for its donation of 5.6 million masks to help fight the Coronavirus, describing it as a gesture of solidarity.

ii) Separately, Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen announced Wednesday that Taiwan had boosted its production of facemasks to 13 million a day (up from over 3 million in early February) and that it was now the second largest surgical mask producer in the world. She said as domestic needs can now be covered, Tsai Ing-wen announced that Taiwan will donate 10 million facemasks for front line medical workers
in countries seriously affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. She added that Taiwan will work with the global community by providing not only face masks but also drugs and related medical technology and that it would donate more facemasks as production is boosted to 15 million daily in the near future.

(Comment: China has been selling medical equipment and supplies and made only a couple of special gestures of donations. However reports state that The Netherlands, Spain and Turkey have rejected China pandemic product batches because they were faulty.)
