CHINA-LEADERSHIP: CHINESE 'PRINCELING' REN ZHIQIANG OFFICIALLY ADMITTED TO BE UNDER INVESTIGATION

After his disappearance on March 12, it has been officially disclosed that 69-year old real estate tycoon and frequent CCP critic Ren Zhiqiang, is under investigation probably presaging his arrest and seizure of his assets.  Ren Zhiqiang is a 'princeling', his father was a Vice Minister of Commerce and retains strong connections to retired former leaders comprising China's ruling elite.

(Comment: Ren Zhiqiang was able to criticise the Party till now because of his connections. His detention is another signal from Xi Jinping that no dissent will be tolerated. Observers have felt that Ren Zhiqiang's recent criticism of President Xi Jinping reflects a growing unhappiness among the party’s old guard with Xi Jinping’s leadership.)
