CHINA-LEADERSHIP: NEW LEADING SMALL GROUP SET UP TO OVERSEE SECURITY

Reflecting the Party's anxieties about domestic social unrest, the Party has established a new high-level coordination group called the 'Safe China Construction Coordinating Small Group'. The group met for the first time on April 21. Xinhua (April 21) said the priority of the group, "set up a few days ago" is to “Prevent and crack down on activities that endanger the political security of the country.” The group consists of the country’s top law enforcement officials, including: Secretary of the Party’s Political and Legal Affairs Commission (PLAC) Guo Shengkun, who chairs the new group; State Councillor and Minister of Public Security Zhao Kezhi; President of the Supreme People’s Court Zhou Qiang; President of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate Zhang Jun; Secretary General of the PLAC Chen Yixin; Minister of State Security Chen Wenqing; prospective Minister of Justice Tang Yijun; Commander of the People’s Armed Police Wang Ning; and Secretary of the Central Military Commission’s PLAC Wang Renhua.
