CHINA-UK: PENALTY FOR 'STEALING STATE SECRETS

On August 8, 2014, the Shanghai No 1 Intermediate People's Court sentenced British corporate investigator 58-year old Peter Humphrey and his wife 61-year old Yu Yingzeng  to two-and-a-half years and two years respectively for illegally obtaining private information on Chinese citizens. It also imposed a fine of 200,000 yuan (HK$250,000) on Humphrey and 150,000 yuan on his wife. Humphrey will be deported after serving his jail term. The two owned the ChinaWhys Risk Consultancy in Shanghai and Hong Kong.
