CHINA-TIBET: CHINA REVEALS A LITTLE MORE ABOUT DALAI LAMA-NOMINATED PANCHEN LAMA

Responding to US Secretary of State Mike Pompo's strong statement demanding disclosure of the whereabouts of  Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, the then 6-year old boy recognised by the Dalai Lama as the Panchen Lama, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman responded on May 20. The spokesman said Gedhun Choekyi Nyima had “passed the college entrance examination and now has a job.” He further claimed that neither he nor his family wishes to be disturbed in their “current normal lives.” No further details were provided. The exiled Tibetan Administration's President Dr Lobsang Sangay said (May 20), “If the Panchen Lama is alive and leading a normal life as the Chinese Foreign spokesperson claims, then let us see him. The world wants to see him, his followers need to hear from him and the six million Tibetan Buddhists want to be blessed by him.” He added that “the Chinese government should stop hiding him and give him his freedom. It is unacceptable on every moral ground that a person even at the age of 31 should be denied freedom and the right to determine his own future.”
