CHINA-US: USCIRF IMPLICATES HIKVISION CHAIRMAN IN RELIGIOUS VIOLATIONS IN XINJIANG

The US government's religious freedom watchdog, USCIRF, has criticised Hikvision for being "credibly implicated in serious religious freedom violations". Three US Congressmen have requested Hikvision chairman Chen Zongnian be sanctioned over Hikvision's "complicity in human rights abuses" in Xinjiang.

(Comment: Interestingly, Hikvision Chairman and Communist Party Secretary Chen Zongnian joined the National People's Congress in 2018. This is a first for a video surveillance manufacturer from any country though Hikvision is owned by the Chinese government. A photograph taken then at the NPC session showed the Hikvision Chairman standing immediately to the left of China's President and CCP CC General Secretary Xi Jinping, both wearing the official red badge of NPC delegates. Hikvision's 2016 Annual Report reveals that Chen Zongnian was born in 1965 and has no overseas residence permission. A PhD in Management he has served as Senior Engineer, as Assistant to the Head of 52nd Research Institute at China Electronics Technology Group, and Deputy Head of the 52nd Institute.
