CHINA-INDIA: CHINESE FOREIGN MINISTRY'S COMMENTS ON TENSIONS ON LAC

Global times (June 1) reported that China's Foreign Ministry had stressed that "the situation on the China-India border is stable and controllable, and diplomatic and military channels of communication between the two sides are unimpeded". Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said at a routine press conference that "China has seriously implemented the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries on the border issue, strictly abided by the agreements signed by the two countries, and is committed to safeguarding the national sovereignty and security of the country and maintaining peace and stability in the border area between China and India". He said, "China believes the two sides can properly resolve the problem through dialogue and negotiations". Separately, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson Ren Guoqiang said at a regular press conference on May 29 that "Chinese border defense troops are devoted to safeguarding peace and stability in the border regions, and that the overall situation along China-India border was stable and under control".
