Yue Jijun, Political Commissar of a research institute of the PLA Rocket Army, wrote in a commentary in the People's Daily (June 10) that political loyalty is at the heart of assessing cadre performance, even when it comes to the response to Covid-19. He wrote “With the normalization of epidemic prevention and control, the task of coordinating the advancement of epidemic prevention and control and economic and social development has become more onerous. Political standards and requirements can only be raised but not reduced. To highlight political standards and accurately examine and identify cadres, we must make politics the first requirement, and educate and guide party cadres to always focus on the center and serve the overall situation, always paying attention to what the Party Central Committee cares about, emphasizes, and deeply understand what is the most important for the party and the country.”
