CHINA-LEADERSHIP: CHINESE LEADERS SANCTIONED BY U.S. FOR HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS IN XINJIANG-UYGHUR AR

Under the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act, which enables the U.S. government to place travel bans and asset freezes on human rights abusers, the US Treasury Department on July 9, 2020, named Chen Quanguo, the Xinjiang-Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) Party Secretary, and Zhu Hailun, a former XUAR Deputy Party Secretary as on the list of those sanctioned. The Xinjiang Public Security Bureau (XPSB) has also been added to the sanctions list as well as the current Director and Communist Party Secretary of the XUAR's PSB, Wang Mingshan, and the former Party Secretary of the XUAR PSB, Huo Liujun.
