CHINA-INTERNAL: ANTI-CORRUPTION CAMPAIGN

Wang Qishan, Chairman of the Central Discipline Inspection Commission (CDIC), China's central watchdog anti-corruption body, attended the seventh meeting of the 12th CPPCC chaired by CPPCC Chairman Yu Zhengsheng which began in Beijing on Aug. 25, 2014. He was invited to the meeting by CPPCC Chairman Yu Zhengsheng because Wang Qishan had earlier expressed that CPPCC members are focusing more on economic subjects, but rarely discuss political issues. At the meeting, Wang Qishan confirmed that Chinese President Xi Jinping's anti-corruption drive will take into account corrupt conduct before the Third Plenary Session of the 18th Communist Part of China (CPC) Committee. He also criticized the gift-giving culture in Chinese society, noting that iPhones or luxury wines are hidden inside moon cake boxes or fruit baskets, which he described as "ridiculous."
