CHINA-LEADERSHIP: CHINESE PRESIDENT XI JINPING PRESIDES OVER MEETING OF CENTRAL COMMISSION FOR FINANCIAL AND ECONOMIC STRATEGIES

On September 9, Chinese President Xi Jinping chaired a meeting of the Central Commission for Financial and Economic Affairs (CCFEA), the Party’s top body for deliberating economic strategies which typically meets three times a year. On top of its agenda was creating a more efficient logistics system. Four government agencies presented reports on the issue: National Development and Reform Commission; Ministry of Transport; Ministry of Commerce; and the People’s Bank of China. The official statement issued after the meeting said “The efficiency of logistics is just as important as production efficiency, and is a critical component of raising the overall efficiency of the domestic economy”, but “The modernization level of our country’s logistics system is still not high” and “There exist numerous problems that still need to be solved.” The CCFEA meeting said  “We must accelerate the completion of a unified domestic market.
