CHINA-SINGAPORE: YANG JIECHI MAKES UNDISCLOSED STOP-OVER IN SINGAPORE
Writing in the South China Morning Post (September 9), Shi Jiangtao disclosed that Yang Jiechi had travelled to Singapore on August 20, when his hosts arranged a special excursion for him, which he suggested could have been a message about how Beijing’s assertiveness is perceived in the city state, to a commemorative marker for China’s late paramount leader Deng Xiaoping along the Singapore River. Conspicuously, China’s foreign ministry made no mention of the stop on Yang Jiechi’s itinerary.
