CHINA-LEADERSHIP: NEW COLLECTION OF CHINESE PRESIDENT XI JINPING'S RELEASED AS A BOOK ON SEPTEMBER 10

A new book presenting a collection of Xi Jinping's speeches titled 'Excerpts from Xi Jinping's statements on Preventing Risks and Challenges and Responding to Emergencies' edited by the CCP CC's Institute of Party History and Documentation and published by the Central Literature Publishing House was released on September 10 for nationwide distribution. Selected excerpts are: (i) During an internal speech on China’s domestic security in 2014, Xi Jinping named the US as “leading the West’s efforts” to westernise and split China. The efforts are intensifying because the balance of power was shifting in China’s favour, he said (page 230). (ii)In a speech on education from 2019, Xi argued that the purpose of education is to train successors for socialism. If education ends up producing people who are ungrateful and even gravediggers of China’s system, it will be “a failure of the education system”, he said. (iii) On page 39 it contained the first official confirmation that Xi Jinping had said “Never allow eating the Communist Party’s food and then smashing the Communist Party’s cooking pots.” (iv) In a speech from 2015, Xi warned that a population boom in cities may bring along higher risks of social unrest. A year ago, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang promised in his annual government report that China will facilitate 100 million people to move to cities (page 98).
