CHINA-INDIA: AIR RAID ALERT TEST IN LHASA ON SEPTEMBER 19

The Lhasa City government announced on September 14 that there would be an air raid test around noon on September 19 “ to improve the general public's conception of national defense and civil air defense awareness and in order to implement the air defense alarm test day system and test our air defense alarm facility.”  The decision to conduct the test at this time coincides with the high tension on the India-China Line of Actual Control (LAC). The last time such an alarm test was conducted in Lhasa was in 2009.

(Comment: The test is being sought to be passed off by some as part of the annual National Defense Education Day, which is observed on the third Saturday of each September, usually with publicity activities, but air raid tests have not been part of the activities till now.)
