CHINA-S&T: HUAWEI DEVELOPING UNIT TO FOCUS ON SMART CAR SOLUTIONS

Caixin (September 26) reported that there are plenty of companies in China wanting to compete with Tesla. These, it said, include Alibaba-backed Xpeng to Nvidia partner Li Auto. Caixin assessed that the real Tesla challenger may be Huawei Technologies Co. It said Huawei’s move into auto-related technology research goes back to 2013 when the company quietly started a unit to develop internet-based auto applications. In April 2019, the company made its first appearance at the Shanghai international auto show, declaring a plan to become an auto parts supplier. One month later, Huawei officially set up an auto business unit focusing on smart car solutions.
