The Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Qin Gang, on September 9, 2014, announced that on the invitation from the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmon, President of the Republic of Maldives Abdulla Yameen, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa and the, President of the Republic of India Pranab Mukherjee , the Chinese President Xi Jinping will  carry out a state visit to the four countries from 12 to 19 September, 2014.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson added that at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon , the Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the fourteenth meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) scheduled to be held on September 11 to 12 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
