CHINA-NEPAL: CHINESE DEFENCE MINISTER GENERAL WEI FENGHE VISITS NEPAL

Chinese State Councillor and Defence Minister General Wei Fenghe made a one-day visit to Kathmandu on November 29, when he met Nepalese President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Prime Minister K.P.S. Oli and Army Chief General Purna Chandra Thapa. Nepal Foreign Ministry representatives were present during General Wei Fenghe's meeting with Nepal Army Chief General Purna Chandra Thapa. On November 29, the Global Times published an article captioned 'With hegemonic mentality, India is wary of China meeting in Nepal'. The article highlighted India's earlier close ties with Nepal and China's growing contacts with Kathmandu observing: 'As South Asian countries began to deepen their cooperation with China and as they have more realistic considerations on their interests, India's moves in the region are being tested'.
