CHINA-INDIA: XI JINPING'S VISIT

The Shanghai-based Gauncha business news service on September 11, 2014, disclosed  the itinerary of Xi Jinping's visit to India. It said Xi Jinping will  visit "Modi's hometown" and deliver a speech in New Delhi.

Stating that the Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit three countries in South Asia between September 12 -19  (Maldives, Sri Lanka, India)it said "Prime Minister Modi on his  birthday will receive the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, on his first visit in his hometown" It added that the Indian media had on September 10, disclosed that special arrangements had been made  by the Indian side for the visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry also briefed the Chinese and foreign media in Beijing on september 11, on President Xi Jinping's state visit to the three countries in South Asia .The Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed the duration of Xi Jinping's visit to India, and that Xi Jinping will meet President Pranab Mukherjee and hold talks with Prime Minister Modi. He will also meet other Indian leaders. There will be in-depth exchange of views on  bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern. Xi Jinping will also deliver a speech on Sino-Indian relations  and China's policy towards South Asia in New Delhi, and will carry out an extensive contact with people of all circles in India.

It reported that on 9th September, Xi Jinping met Indian Prime Minister's Envoy Doval in Beijing. After talks with Chinese State Councillor Yang Jiechi, Doval said that Xi Jinping's visit to India is a top priority for current Sino-Indian relations.

It noted that the Chief Minister of the Indian state of Gujarat, Anandiben Patelrecently revealed that Modi will receive visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping  on his birthday on September 17th , at his hometown in the state of Gujarat. In her opinion, this arrangement should be called Gujarat's  "multiple glory", first, of all  this is the first time that a Chinese head of state is visiting Gujarat; second, this is also Modi's first tour to his hometown after he took over as Prime Minister of India; and more importantly, the state of Gujarat, also called the "Indian Guangdong",  and here there will be construction of the Chinese Industrial Park.

The report added that Gujarat is Modi's homestate, where he served as Chief Minister for 10 years. The average annual GDP growth rate was over 10% in this state during his tenure. Because of its high-speed economic development model it is also known as "India's Guangdong Province." An important reason for making Gujarat the first stop in Xi Jinping's   visit is to make the "twinning" of the "two Guangdongs." According to a report in "The Hindu" on the 9th September, on Modi's birthday on 17th September, in the presence of the two leaders from China and India, Gujarat will form a friendship with Guangdong province,  and Gujarat's capital Ahmedabad and Guangzhou will become sister cities.
