CHINA-LEADERSHIP: ZHAO ZIYANG'S FAMILY MARKS HIS 16TH DEATH ANNIVERSARY ON JANUARY 18

January 18th marks the 16th death anniversary of the late former CCP CC General Secretary Zhao Ziyang. Zhao Ziyang's daughter Wang Yannan, son-in-law Wang Zhihua and others went from his former residence at No: 6, Fuqiang Hutong to the cemetery in Changping Tianshou Garden in Beijing. Nearly 10 plainclothes police officers were stationed outside Zhao Ziyang's former residence at Fuqiang Hutong. They checked the identity cards of visitors to the former residence, but there was not much blocking. Radio Hong Kong reported that on January 17, security was tight on the periphery of Zhao Ziyang's cemetery with several security guards with "Public Security Patrol" armbands were stationed in the parking lot to drive away private cars, including the media ostensibly due to the epidemic. Zhao Ziyang’s old ministry, former secretary Li Shuqiao, and former State Economic Reform Commission official Song Tingming, among others sent flowers. Some of Zhao Ziyang’s friends including the former President of "Yanhuang Chunqiu", the 97-year-old Du Daozheng and former Deputy Editor-in-Chief Wang Yanjun and former Ministry officials visited his former residence in Beijing on January 16, and photographed Zhao Ziyang and his wife in the study.

(Comment: Zhao Ziyang was born in 1919 and died in 2005. His original name was Zhao Xiuye. He was a native of Henan and one of the main leaders of the second generation of the Chinese Communist Party.)
