CHINA-ARCTIC: CHINESE RESEARCHER ADVOCATES ARCTIC COMMUNITY OF SHARED FUTURE

The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) February 26, published an article by Xu Guangmiao, a lecturer at the China Institute of Border and Oceanography, Wuhan University, which says China needs to reinforce its role in the Arctic order. He advocates building of the "Arctic Community of Shared Future". He said it was based on the US-Russian "dual center" power structure, but the current Arctic order is facing many problems and challenges, such as the strengthening of competition among major powers, the insufficient supply capacity of regional rules and systems, and the lack of consensus on the concept of participating in equal regional cooperation. He pointed out that the advancement of the "Ice Silk Road" initiative was blocked. Xu Guangmiao said under the current situation, how to build the broadest consensus of all parties through the concept of "Arctic Community with a Shared Future" and maintain international cooperation in the Arctic region is a strategic issue that China urgently needs to plan for in the Arctic region.
