CHINA-PLA: SALARY AND ALLOWANCES

With effect from October 1, 2014 China raised the PLA pensions for disabled soldiers,  families of fallen soldiers and veterans of the Red Army.  Pensions will increase by 20 per cent for the disabled, including soldiers, police, civil servants and militia members. Family members of fallen soldiers in urban areas and veteransof the Red Army (those serving between 1927-37) will also receive a 20 per cent increase in pensions. 
 
According to the revised norms, the annual pension for each person of the bereaved families living in urban areas will be 16,630 yuan (2,702 U.S. dollars) while those living in rural areas will receive 11,160 yuan each year. This represents a 40 percent increase. This the 21st adjustment in pensions for disabled soldiers since 1978 and entails an additional expenditure of 1.57 billion yuan this year for the central government.
