CHINA-LEADERSHIP: CPPCC CHAIRMAN AND PBSC MEMBER WANG YANG VISITS INNER MONGOLIA FROM APRIL 12-14

During his visit to Inner Mongolia from April 12-14, PBSC member and CPPCC Chairman Wang Yang stressed the need to create a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation while upholding an accurate understanding of country, history, ethnicity, culture and religion, and maintaining ethnic unity, social stability and tranquillity in the border areas. Underscoring that forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation is fundamental to realizing national rejuvenation, Wang Yang also mentioned the need to promote the preservation, innovation and integration of the cultures of all ethnic groups on the basis of strengthening the sense of identity with Chinese culture. He also urged accelerated efforts in extending the use of Putonghua.  The People Daily (April 15) reported on Wang Yang's visit in an article with the title 'Unswervingly forging the consciousness of the Chinese nation's community, firmly building the security and stability barrier of the motherland's northern borders'. The People's Daily report disclosed that 'Wang Yang led the research team to Inner Mongolia, divided into 4 groups, and went to Hohhot, Baotou, Tongliao, Xilin Gol and other places, and went to the party and government agencies, urban communities, rural pastoral areas, various schools, scientific research institutions, and cultural institutions'. It quoted Wang Yang as saying 'forging a strong sense of the community of the Chinese nation is a fundamental strategic project for achieving national rejuvenation'. He asked cadres to 'strengthen the study of the history of the Chinese nation community, and educate and guide the cadres and masses of all ethnic groups to always keep in mind that our vast territory is jointly developed by all ethnic groups, and the long history is written by all ethnic groups and a splendid culture.' You Quan, Secretary of the Secretariat of the Chinese Communist Party and Director of the United Front Work Department accompanied Wang Yang. CCTV (April 14) also covered wang Yang's visit and repeated the People's Daily's coverage.
