CHINA-TAIWAN: CHINESE AIRCRAFT CARRY OUT LARGEST INTRUSION OF TAIWAN'S ADIZ IN ONE YEAR

Twenty-five PLAAF aircraft breached Taiwan’s Air Defense Identification Zone on April 14, in China’s largest incursion into Taiwanese airspace in a year.  According to Taiwan's Defence Ministry, the aircraft involved were 14 J-16 and four J-10 fighters, as well as four H-6K bombers, which can carry nuclear weapons, two anti-submarine aircraft and an early warning aircraft.  It said the Chinese aircraft all flew in an area close to the Pratas Islands. Taiwan's Defence Ministry added that combat aircraft were dispatched to intercept and warn away the Chinese aircraft, while missile systems were also deployed to monitor them.

(Comment: The manoeuvre is part of a long-standing Chinese harassment campaign that intensified last year when Taiwan saw a record 380 incursions.)
