Chen Yeong-kang, chief of Taiwan's navy disclosed on October 16, 2014, that Taiwan is considering stationing 3,000-tonne naval frigates and coastguard cutters at Itu Aba, also known as Tai Ping, the only island in the Spratlys large enough to accommodate a port, which is currently under construction. The port is expected to be ready by 2015.
