On May 12-13, Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Henan province when he went to several sites related to the central route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project. Reporting his meeting with resettled residents of Zouzhuang village, Xi Jinping thanked them for their contribution to the country. Xinhua quoted him as saying “You gave up your homes to enable everyone to have good water to drink” and "everybody benefitting [from this project] and the whole nation should thank you.” Xi Jinping was accompanied on the inspection by PB member Ding Xuexiang, PB member and Vice Premier Hu Chunhua, and Minister NDRC He Lifeng,

(Comment: The massive South-to-North Water Diversion Project, the largest project of its kind, aims to bring water from the Yangtze River in southern China to the water-strapped northern plains through three separate canal systems. One of the problems of the central route has been the forced resettlement of around 330,000 people who were living near the project’s Danjiangkou Reservoir.)
