CHINA-PLA: PLA 72ND GROUP ARMY CONDUCTS URBAN WARFARE EXERCISE USING AI EQUIPMENT

China's state-owned CCTV quoted a 'qq' chat report (May 5) as stating that a certain combined brigade in the PLA 72nd Group Army of the Eastern Theater Command launched an urban offensive and defensive exercise in cities and towns, with drones and unmanned vehicles playing a key role. It said the troops had used AI equipment to explore methods for manned and unmanned coordinated operations. It said that last year, during a street combat training conducted by the PLA 72nd Group Army, it used the Mecha Master S1 programmable educational robot launched by DJI. The Mecha Master S1 supports two programming languages, Scratch and Python.

(Comment: The urban warfare exercises would be aimed at military operations in Taiwan. Use of AI, or "intelligent" equipment points to the PLA increasingly exploring the use of technology in battle.)
