CHINA-US: US SENATORS TRAVEL TO TAIWAN IN USAF AIRCRAFT

Three US Senators, Ladda Tammy Duckworth (D), Daniel Scott Sullivan (R) both members of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Christopher Andrew Coons (D) a member of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, travelled to Taiwan on a USAF C-17 Globemaster rather than an unmarked private jet. They visited Taiwan from June 6-8, 2021. The Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said these U.S. Senators are all long-term supporters of Taiwan, and they are prioritizing the visit to Taiwan to demonstrate their firm bi-partisan support of Taiwan in the U.S. Senate. This is the first international visit that the Senate Armed Services Committee planned to have, after the breakout of the Covid-19 Pandemic last year. The whole U.S. Senate visiting group includes ten people. A meeting with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen is part of the schedule. China protested the visit describing it as a " vile political provocation" that was irresponsible and dangerous. China's Ministry of National Defence called "it "a political show", challenging the one-China principle and trying to achieve the so-called goal of using Taiwan to control China".
