CHINA-ECONOMY: CHINESE ACADEMIC EXPLAINS NATIONAL ECONOMIC SECURITY

In an article published on June 12, 2021, in "Marxist Studies" (Issue 3/2021) Prof. Yang Yunxia, Dean, Professor, and Doctoral Supervisor of the School of Marxism, Northwestern Polytechnical University, and a special researcher at the Center for Innovation and Development of Ideological and Political Work of the Ministry of Education of Northwestern Polytechnical University, described National economic security as an important content of national security. He said "It is the state and ability of a country to maintain the effective supply of resources required for its economic existence and development, the independent and stable operation of the economic system, and the overall economic welfare from malicious infringement and force majeure. Maintaining national economic security is a long-term, complex, urgent, and arduous task. It is also an important foundation for a country to safeguard its political power, sovereignty, and people’s well-being". Yang Yunxia asserted that in recent years "hegemonic countries have frequently used the tool of generalized economic security as a normal reason for undermining international trade rules. The generalized economic security has deviated from the connotation of national economic security, and engulfed expanded political and ideological factors, intertwined with the country’s political and economic activities, posing a severe challenge to the international economic governance order and severely infringing upon it". He said China had always stood for the interests of developing countries. He said, "China has always opposed the US's generalization of the concept of national security, abuse of national power, and unreasonable suppression of bullying by other countries' enterprises." In theory, it is necessary to deeply reflect on the generalization of national economic security and explore China's solutions."
