CHINA-TAIWAN: US 7TH FLEET'S GUIDED MISSILE DESTROYER TRANSITS TAIWAN STRAIT ON JUNE 22

The US Seventh Fleet said that the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54) conducted a routine Taiwan Strait transit on June 22 through international waters in accordance with international law. It said, "the ship's transit through the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the U.S. commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific". Separately, the Global Times quoted Senior Colonel Zhang Chunhui, spokesperson of the PLA Eastern Theatre Command Command, as issuing a statement on June 23, which said "the PLA Eastern Theater Command organized maritime and aerial forces, tracked and monitored on high alert the USS Curtis Wilbur guided-missile destroyer through its entire course when it made a transit in the Taiwan Straits on June 22.
