A commentary published in Qiu Shi (August 3) said General Secretary Xi Jinping had "profoundly clarified that the party’s command of guns is an unbreakable truth" and emphasised "the need to always put ideological and political construction in the first place in all military construction, lay a solid ideological and political foundation for officers and soldiers to hold high the banner and listen to the party’s command so that the party’s absolute leadership over the army can be deeply rooted in the officers’ and soldiers’ thinking". It added "The unique political advantage of the party’s army building and governance emphasizes the importance of attaching great importance to the ideological and political organization of the army, insisting on “building branches on the company” to ensure that the party’s absolute leadership of the army reaches the grassroots and officers and soldiers; profoundly clarifies the revolutionary spirit".
