CHINA-RUSSIA: CCTV REPORTS CHINESE PRESIDENT XI JINPING'S CONVERSATION ON AUGUST 25 WITH RUSSIAN PRESIDENT VLADIMIR PUTIN

The state-run CCTV while reporting the conversation between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Putin on August 25, said that the two had exchanged in-depth views on the situation in Afghanistan. It said 'Xi Jinping emphasized that China respects Afghanistan’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, pursues a policy of non-interference in Afghanistan’s internal affairs and has always played a constructive role in the political settlement of the Afghan issue. China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with all parties in the international community, including Russia, and encourage all parties in Afghanistan to negotiate to build an open and inclusive political structure, implement a moderate and stable domestic and foreign policy, and completely cut off from various terrorist organizations, and with countries around the world, especially neighbouring countries. Putin said that Russia is satisfied with the development of Russia-China relations and that Russia firmly adheres to the one-China policy, firmly supports China's legitimate position of safeguarding its core interests on issues related to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Xinjiang, and the South China Sea'.Putin also said ' It firmly opposes any interference in China's internal affairs by any external forces and opposes the politicization of the source of the new crown virus'. On the situation in Afghanistan, 'Putin said that the current evolution of the situation in Afghanistan shows that the policy of forcibly implementing its political model by external forces will not work and will only bring destruction and disaster to the relevant countries. Russia and China share similar positions and common interests on the Afghan issue. Russia is willing to communicate and coordinate closely with China, actively participate in multilateral mechanisms involving Afghanistan, promote a smooth transition of the situation in Afghanistan, combat terrorism, cut off drug smuggling, and prevent the spillover of security risks in Afghanistan.
