CHINA-PLA: AVIATION UNIT OF WESTERN THEATRE COMMAND CARRIES OUT AIRDROP AND AIRBORNE TRAINING IN 'UNFAMILIAR' AREAS

The PLA Daily (September 14) disclosed that an Air Force aviation unit of the Western Theater Command in late August carried out airdrop and airborne training in unfamiliar areas to comprehensively improve the multi-domain cooperative combat capability of the unit. It said "The airdrop training adopted the three-aircraft follow-up continuous drop method, with short intervals, and each warfare structure and delivery method are different." The on-site captain of the mission Liu Wei said "This joint operation with the airborne troops is to lay a solid technical foundation for the integrated implementation of airdrops and airdrops in unfamiliar areas, and to explore new ways for the integration of domestic large transport aircraft into the combat system." On the eve of the coordinated training, the unit conducted ground simulation training with a certain unit of the airborne troops, conducted intensive research on the implementation methods of airdrop and airborne integration, sorted out mission risk points, and discussed corresponding countermeasures. Through training data analysis, they elaborately formulate loading and airdrop plans to ensure that the training is carried out in an orderly manner. The PLA Daily report said the training had effectively improved the unit's ability to coordinate operations in unfamiliar regions. It reported that in the next stage, the unit will also carry out coordinated training with airborne troops to further explore actual combat airdrop and airborne training methods, and continuously improve battlefield projection capabilities.
