CHINA-AGRICULTURE: US DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE ANTICIPATES CHINA'S WILL HAVE BUMPER DOMESTIC CORN CROP THIS YEAR
On September 10, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) forecast that China's domestic corn
crop would hit a record 273 million tons this year. It said that China's policy support had helped
nurture the bumper harvest. “Farmers were…encouraged…to reduce the area left fallow and to
increase rotation of grain crops.” and “Government provision of targeted incentives and subsidies
to corn processors…have increased corn area.”
(Comment: China's dependence on grain imports will, however, not diminish.)
