CHINA-US: U.S. FEDERAL JUDGE ACQUITTED PROFESSOR ANMING HU WHO WAS ACCUSED OF CONCEALING HIS LINKS TO CHINA

A federal judge in Tennessee on September 9 acquitted Professor Anming Hu who had been accused of hiding his China ties when applying for research grants to work on a NASA project, saying the U.S. government hadn’t proven its case. The judge’s ruling comes as the Justice Department is facing increasing criticism from groups representing Asian-Americans and some Democrats in Congress over whether it is improperly targeting Chinese academics while looking into allegations of fraud in U.S. grant programs.
