CHINA-LEADERSHIP: XI JINPING TELLS POLITBURO TO STRENGTHEN "POLITICAL GUIDANCE" OF LAWYERS

Xinhua (December 9) reported that Xi Jinping told a meeting of the Politburo in Beijing on December 6 that the Party should strengthen its “political guidance” of lawyers. Xi Jinping said “[We should] educate and guide lawyers to consciously abide by the basic requirements of supporting the leadership of the Communist Party and the socialist rule of law in China, and strive to be good lawyers satisfied by the party and the people.” He added that lawyers in China too should consciously “follow and embrace” the leadership of the Communist Party.
