CHINA-RUSSIA: XINHUA STATEMENT ON XI-PUTIN VIRTUAL SUMMIT ON DECEMBER 15

On December 15, Xinhua released the following statement on the Xi Jinping-Putin Virtual Summit earlier the same day.The statement said:
"Xi Jinping pointed out that it is a great pleasure to hold the second video meeting this year with you at the end of the year. This is also our 37th meeting since 2013. You praised China-Russia relations on many occasions as "a model of cooperation between countries in the 21st century", firmly supported China in defending its core interests, and opposed attempts to separate China and Russia. I highly appreciate this and I am willing to work with you to comprehensively summarize the new achievements in the development of bilateral relations this year, make new plans for cooperation in various fields, and promote the sustained and high-quality development of bilateral relations.
Xi Jinping emphasized that at present, with the intertwining effects of the century-old changes in the world and the epidemic of the century, the world has entered a period of turbulent change. Sino-Russian relations have withstood the tests of various storms and demonstrated new vitality. Mr. President and I have maintained communication and coordination on major issues in a variety of ways, and jointly lead the Sino-Russian relations. The two sides formally announced the extension of the "Sino-Russian Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation" and gave it new connotations of the times. They firmly supported each other on issues involving each other's core interests and safeguarded the dignity of each country and the common interests of the two countries.
Xi Jinping pointed out that China-Russia all-round pragmatic cooperation has shown huge political advantages and advantages of opportunity. The bilateral trade volume exceeded the 100 billion U.S. dollar mark for the first time in the first three quarters, and is expected to reach new highs throughout the year. The China-Russia Year of Scientific and Technological Innovation was successfully concluded, a series of large strategic projects were successfully implemented, and the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" and the Eurasian Economic Union were smoothly advanced. The two countries actively demonstrated their responsibility as major powers, united the international community to fight the epidemic, explained the correct connotations of democracy and human rights, and became the mainstays of practicing true multilateralism and safeguarding international fairness and justice."
