CHINA-EUROPE: FRANCE

On the final day of their 4-day visit (March 25-28, 2014) to France, which is the second country on Chinese President Xi Jinping's 10-day European tour, UNESCO named  Xi Jinping's wife Peng Liyuan as its Special Envoy for the promotion of education for girls and women.
Peng Liyuan is already WHO's Ambassador focussing on HIV/Aids and TB.

Xi Jinping's visit to France coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of full diplomatic relations between the two countries. Xi Jinping was to deliver a major speech highlighting the historical bonds between the two nations, including references to the experiences of late Communist Party luminaries Zhou Enlai and Deng Xiaoping, who studied in France. He was hosted to a private dinner on March 28 by French President Francois Hollande.
The issue of human rights in China surfaced during the visit when activists from 'Reporters Without Borders'  unfurled a big portrait of Xi Jinping making an obscene gesture with the slogan: "Without freedom of information, no force of opposition." Tibetan exiles had also planned big rallies in Paris and Lyons on March 27.
