Xinhua on January 1, 2022, front-paged a lengthy report eulogising CCP CC General Secretary Xi Jinping's
contribution to Chinese Communist Thought. A People's Daily Commentary (January 2) praised Xi Jinping's
leadership and his "courage" in locking down cities to combat the pandemic. It praised the anti-corruption
campaign in which, it highlighted, "Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, more
than 400 central management cadres" such as Zhou Yongkang, Bo Xilai, Sun Zhengcai, and Ling Jihua have
been dismissed and or imprisoned. It said, "General Secretary Xi Jinping used the courage of a Marxist
politician and strategist to plan the overall situation at home and abroad, as solid as a rock in the stormy
waves, and strategizing amidst risks and challenges, winning the heartfelt love and high trust of the entire
party, the army, and the people of all ethnic groups throughout the country". It added "In front of the giant
party emblem composed of hammers and sickles, the Central Committee unanimously adopted the plenary
communiqué by a show of hands, clarifying the core position of Comrade Xi Jinping". A sub-section titled
'Hit a punch to avoid a hundred punches' said: "Properly handle Hong Kong’s "Regulations Amendment
Disturbance", launch struggles involving Taiwan, Xinjiang, Tibet, and seas, accelerate the building of a
maritime power, and effectively safeguard national security... Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core with the
strategic determination of "Flying through chaos and calmly" and the extraordinary spirit of "unique heroes
driving tigers and leopards", we will unite and lead the people to advance through difficulties, persevere
forward, and continue to advance the great cause in the great struggle". The People's Daily (January 3)
featured another Commentator's article captioned 'Let everyone live a better life ——Revelation of Chairman
Xi Jinping’s New Year’s Message in 2022', which praised Xi Jinping's efforts to understand the people's
problems through tours and interactions
