CHINA-FOREIGN POLICY: QIU SHI ARTICLE ON CHINA'S DIPLOMATIC WORK IN 2022

The Party theoretical fortnightly on January 9 published an article titled '2022 Diplomatic Work Outlook'. It observed that "the world has entered a period of turbulence and change. It claimed that "China has always stood on the right side of history, ... on the side of international fairness and justice, and on the side of the vast number of developing countries" and that it "opposes zero-sum game" and "opposes bullying by power". It described 2022 as an important year for the world and "a crucial year for the Chinese people to march towards the second centenary goal with high spirits”. It declared "The diplomatic front will be more closely united around the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, continuously enhance the "four consciousnesses", strengthen the "four self-confidences", achieve "two maintenances", keep in mind the "two overall interests", and strive to serve the party. and the great cause of the country to create a more stable and favorable external environment". It enumerated the 20th Party Congress, the Beijing Winter Olympics and multilateral summits such as the BRICS leaders' meeting and the China International Import Expo as important events, and among the global initiatives listed epidemic prevention, the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Belt and Road Initiative as major projects for diplomacy. It called for deepening the "strategic cooperation between China and Russia" and "firmly act as the pillar of global stability"; strengthening "high-level strategic communication between China and the EU"; "resolutely be a sincere and reliable partner of developing countries, support countries in enhancing their capacity for independent development, and defend the legitimate development rights of developing countries"; "make efforts to correct the chaos in China-US relations" and said "Both China and the United States should regain the original intention of melting ice, implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, abide by the three principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, abide by the spirit of the three Sino-US joint communiqués, and promote the return of the US policy toward China to rationality and promote China-US relations. Get back on the right track and jointly explore the way for two major countries with different systems, different cultures and different stages of development to coexist peacefully on this planet, so as to benefit the people of the two countries and the world" and "Sixth, firmly defend the core interests of the country". In conclusion it asserted "We will fight resolutely and vigorously against any attempt to infringe on China's sovereignty, security and development interests; we will resolutely and effectively fight back against any act that harms the legitimate rights and interests of the Chinese people. We never depend on others, never plunder others, and never accept any coercion or blackmail. Taiwan has always been part of China's territory. China's national sovereignty and territorial integrity cannot be violated. China's general trend towards complete national reunification is unstoppable.
