The People's Daily (January 11) published a lengthy article by Qu Qingshan, Director of the CCP CC's Party
History and Literature Research Institute, on implementation of the spirit of the Sixth Plenary Session. He
pointed out that the "Ten Persistence" is "a profound summary of the party's historical experience of a century
of struggle" and these are to: adhere to the leadership of the party, adhere to the supremacy of the people,
adhere to theoretical innovation, adhere to independence, adhere to the Chinese path, adhere to the world,
adhere to pioneering innovation, adhere to the courage to fight, adhere to the united front, and adhere to selfrevolution. He added that the historical experience of the "Ten Persistence" was achieved by the Party and
people united "under the strong leadership of the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the
core". "It involves all aspects of the cause of the party and the people, all aspects of revolution, construction
and reform, all aspects of governing the party, the country and the army, and all aspects of internal affairs,
foreign affairs and national defense" and are interrelated. Noting that "The "Resolution" does not have a
separate line on the modernization of national defense and the army, but this one is still very important,
because the history of the party tells us: "Without a people's army, there is no people's everything." A strong
country must have a strong army, and a strong military can only lead to national security. To realize the great
rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, we must speed up the modernization of national defense and the military,
which is an important strategic support for safeguarding national sovereignty, security and development
interests". He asserted that to "uphold the Party's overall leadership, resolutely safeguard the Party's core and
the authority of the Party Central Committee, give full play to the Party's leadership and political advantages,
and implement the Party's leadership in all aspects of the Party and the country's undertakings" is essential
for the unity of "the party, the army, and the people of all ethnic groups".
