A commentary posted (January 8) on the Central Discipline Inspection Commission (CDIC)'s official website
spoke of keeping up the "overwhelming" pressure against corruption thereby setting tone for the 20th Party
Congress later this year. Captioned 'Fighting two tigers at the beginning of the year: Keeping the
overwhelming force against corruption always there', it said "political and economic problems are
intertwined and threaten the political security of the party and the country"... "corruption is more concealed
and complicated" and that "the soil that breeds corruption objectively exists". It revealed that from December
2012 to June 2021, "under the strong leadership of the Party Central Committee", the CDIC and supervision
organs filed cases to investigate 393 leading cadres above the provincial and ministerial level, 22,000 cadres
at the department and bureau level, and 22,000 cadres at the county and division level. It said there are more
than 174,000 cadres and 631,000 township and department-level cadres. The Commentary unambiguously
declared: "There are still people who do not learn from their lessons and run large-scale gangs and gangs
within the party, seriously undermining the unity and unity of the party. Political problems and economic
problems are intertwined, threatening the political security of the party and the country; traditional corruption
and new corruption are intertwined, and corrupt behaviours are more subtle and complex; corruption
problems are intertwined with unhealthy trends, and the "four styles" have become a breeding ground for
corruption. All these confirm that the fight against corruption and anti-corruption has existed for a long time,
and there is no option to fight against corruption, and it must be done despite difficulties".
